Hernia

Hernia operation in Begusarai

हर्निया

A hernia is a bulge that forms when part of the intestine or fatty tissue pushes through a weak spot in the wall of the abdomen. It often appears in the groin, at the navel or near the scar of an old operation. Dr. Jamshed repairs hernias at Hyder Nursing Home.

Common symptoms

  • A bulge in the groin, at the navel or near an old operation scar
  • A bulge that gets bigger when you cough, strain or stand, and may go back when you lie down
  • Discomfort, heaviness or pain at the bulge, especially when lifting
  • A painful bulge that will not go back, with vomiting, needs emergency care

Tests

  • Examination by the surgeon
  • Ultrasound, if needed

Treatment

A hernia does not heal on its own. The usual treatment is an operation to repair the weak spot, either by keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery or by an open operation. Dr. Jamshed will advise which suits you.

What to expect

You are admitted for the operation. The surgeon will explain how long you are likely to stay and when you can lift heavy things and return to work.

This page is general information. Your treatment depends on your examination and tests.
